Wine of the Week
10th September 2010
Bourgogne Blanc 2008, Jean Marc-Brocard
£11 per bottle
Jean-Marc Brocard is one of the most respected producers in Chablis, championing the virtues of organic and bio-dynamic viticulture in the region. This wine is produced from grapes that were cultivated just outside the Chablis Appellation.
This delicious Bourgogne Blanc has a lovely aroma of orchard fruits - ripe apples/pears along with gorgeous floral notes such as apple blossom and rose petals. We also got hints of flaked almonds and fresh bread. On the palate the aroma's follow through; it is well-balanced with crisp and fresh acidity and it leaves you with a gorgeous lingering buttery and mineral noted flavour. In fact very reminiscent of a very good `Chablis'. Just tried it again today with our lunch and it's superb and offers excellent value for money - we've worked it out that just for a glass it's under £2. Cannot beat it!
The recipe of the week to match this wine is Sea bass, curly kale and herby hollandaise which we ate last night. YUM!
