Taylor's 10 Year Old Tawny
Taylor's is one of the oldest and most prestigious port producers, founded over three centuries ago in 1692 and remains an independent family owned and run business. Its headquarters are within the ancient lodges in Oporto where their fine and rare ports reach maturity having grown up in the Douro Valley.Taylor's port remains a great benchmark for fine port and we feel this Tawny is a superb.
Taylor's 10 Year Old Tawny is a superb example of an aged tawny port, made from selected full red ports grown in the best vineyards of the Cima Corgo and Douro Superior. The individual wines are laid down to age in oak casks of about 550 litres capacity for an average of 10 years, during which time they lose their initial dark purple-black colour and take on the delicate ‘tawny' hue from which the wine takes its name.
This is elegant and smooth with delicate wood notes and mellow fruit. We recommend you chill it slightly, about 30 minutes in the fridge will do the trick. It's fantastic with chocolate desserts, so don't let the cheese have all the fun!
