Very aromatic, toasty aroma, mixed with ripe red fruits. Medium-full-bodied, with hints of chocolate and roasted coffee beans.
Produced from three distinctive plots of Cabernet Franc vines in the Saumur-Champigny appellation. The wine was matured for nearly 12 months in large oak barrels, which has polished the mineral and fruit characteristics of the wine. This is the wine that I first tasted back in October 2009 and just got better and better once it had time to breathe. Very aromatic, toasty aroma, mixed with ripe red fruits. Medium-full-bodied, with hints of chocolate and roasted coffee beans. For a hot vintage like 2003, this is surprisingly fresh and elegant. It is probably drinking at its peak now, but I am sure will continue to do so for another 4 to 5 years. This wine offers up an excellent experience at this price level.
