Red Wines

Crozes Hermitage 2007, Les Hauts Granites, Jeannine Boutin
100% Syrah from vines between 40 to 60 years old. The grapes are fermented on their skins for about 4 weeks, before a gentle pressing. The free run juice and pressed wine is then blended, 20% of which is transferred to used oak and the rest into tank to mature for 18 months.
A good expression of red fruits on the nose. Exuberant super ripe fruit brings the wine complex aromas of lavender and liquorice and an almost sweet berry like character, with a hint of dark chocolate. The mouth expresses good minerality, balanced with light notes of oak. The tannins are fine and velvety. This is an elegant Crozes that is very approachable now, but I feel has the potential to age rather well over the next 7 to 8 years. I'd be happy to go on record to suggest you try this with a meaty fish dish, like monkfish or even brill.
