Escarpment Pinot Noir 2008
One of New Zealand's most famous winemakers, Larry McKenna, is the man behind Escarpment. Larry's name goes hand-in-hand with the best quality Pinot Noir from New Zealand. Very perfumed on the nose with notes of smoke, bacon, liquorice and fresh herbs. Medium-full in body, with ripe silky tannins and excellent structure. There are plenty of sweet ripe berries on the finish with a touch of vanilla and spice. This is still youthful and needs a good 30-40 minutes to breathe to open up. I am sure this wine will evolve well in bottle for another 8 to 10 years. Taste Food and Wine 2008, by Matthew Dukes and Tyson Stelzer, has just announced the first Great NZ Pinot Noir classification, in which Escarpment is one of 4 wines to gain the top rating.
