Rosso di Montalcino 2008, II Marroneto
II Morroneto appears to be making quite a name for itself in Italy - their Brunello di Montalcino 2006 Madonna del Grazie was a surprise hit at a recent blind tasting of over 40 Brunellos a few weeks ago - it came in third place!
The Rosso is the wine that does not make it into the final Brunello blend, so represents and excellent abbreviation of this great wine. This has a nose of roasted peppers, herbs and a touch of smoky praprika. The tannins are ripe and have a lovely chewy texture. This is very approachable now, but I suspect will continue to age for another 6 years plus.
