Valpolicella dell'Aniversario 2005, Sergo Alighieri
Produced by Masi from Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara grapes harvested from the Serègo Alighieri vineyards in Gargagnago and made using the same double-fermentation technique as the Campofiorin, the wine has been aged for 18 months in Slavonian oak barrels followed by 4 months in cherry wood barrels.
This wine is intense and full-flavoured on the nose with aromas of all types of cherry - wild, and cultivated, fresh and cooked - sweetened by spicy hints of cinnamon and nutmeg. It is full- bodied on the palate with cherry and plum flavours and lovely chewy, ripe tannins adding texture and balance. Great length too. This is a superb wine - it went really well with a roast rib of beef the other day!
